Countdown

Many of my friends are engaged and counting down to their wedding. I on the other hand have a much more mundane life and am counting down to something less exciting (but more stressful): comps. Yay. 10 more days until the biggest exam of my life. I hope I pass.

Last night I fell asleep studying and had dreams about the IMF (interplanetary magnetic field). Actually they were more like nightmares. It was peachy.

Well, I need to get back to studying. After I finish comps I have a goal to once again post somewhat regularly on here, for your reading enjoyment.

Update

Well, it has been over 2 months since my last post. I'm way too busy to write on a blog, I guess. However, I anticipate things slowing down a bit soon. (As soon as I finish my comprehensive exams which I have spent all my free time studying for, because if I fail I get kicked out of my graduate program and I don't get a second chance or anything, and I'm not exaggerating about this despite what some of my "friends" may think...)

The only big news I can think of off the top of my head is that I got awarded a National Science Foundation fellowship, which was awesome and totally unexpected. So assuming I pass comps, I'm home free for the next 3 years because I will be funded by the NSF. No more TAing and no more stressing about if my advisor has the funding to pay me. Yay!!! :)

Now, back to studying. I'll post an update after comps. Maybe from Europe or somewhere.

"I'm bored..."

Lately I have been getting really annoyed when I hear people whine and complain that they are "bored." Seriously? You're bored? Are you 5 years old?

I don't even remember what it feels like to be bored. When sleep is a luxury--and one that you don't often get to enjoy--boredom isn't really an issue, I guess.

My super awesome life!

I'm alive!! I realize I haven't really posted since summer. What can I say, I've been busy living my awesome life. :P I just wanted to let all my loyal friends and readers know that I'm still around, and maybe I'll start posting again, if I have time. In the next few weeks I will be:

1. Helping my roommates host a big Halloween party at our house. It will be big. It will be awesome. Come.

2. Heading out to the Perkins telescope in Arizona to do some observing. It will be a crazy whirlwind of a trip, where, during the 4 days we are there, we have precious few hours scheduled for sleeping. The first night we can sleep, but the other 2 we will be observing all night at the telescope. During the day we could sleep, but we have chosen instead to explore the Grand Canyon and other interesting sites in the area.

3. Going to Las Campanas Observatory in Chile (that's right, CHILE) for more observing. This trip is going to be awesome, but once again, very sleep-deprived. Ah, the life of an Astronomer. I am super excited that I get to see the Southern sky for the first time in my life! I've never been below the equator (for all my traveling) and thus there are constellations that I've never seen. Seeing the Southern Constellations has always been one of my dreams. I'm excited. :)

4. Doing tons of homework, teaching, programming, and hopefully some research and studying.

Well, that's what I've got planned for the near future. Hopefully at some point I'll get around to writing about everything I've missed posting about the past couple months.
